Method Principle
This Diagnostic Automation/ Cortez Diagnostics Inc. Food Vitamin B7/Biotin ELISA Kit is a quantitative test based on the principle of the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Avidin, which shows a high affinity to biotin, is bound on the surface of a microplate. Biotin containing samples or standards and a biotin-alkaline phosphatase conjugate are given into the wells of the microplate. Enzyme labeled and free biotin compete for the binding sites. Background Information
Vitamin H or Vitamin B7, commonly known as Biotin is a part of Vitamin B complex, important in metabolism, Blood cells formation, and proper function of nervous system. Biotin is also necessary for cell growth. Biotin is recommended for strengthening of hair and nail. A small study has shown that high doses of Biotin may play a role in ending, preventing, delaying, and reversing progression in progressive multiple sclerosis in patients with limited options in treatments. Biotin deficiency is rare because this vitamin is produced by the intestinal bacteria more than daily requirement of human body. However, certain metabolic disorders and excessive ingestion of raw egg white, which can be explained by its content of biotin binding Avidin can contribute to Biotin deficiency.
