Description
Sm/RNP ELISA Test kit
Sm/RNP ELISA Test kit Intended Use
Sm/RNP ELISA test kit is a semi-quantitative immunoassay for the detection of IgG antibodies to Sm/RNP in human sera. The results of this autoantibody profile may aid in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune connective tissue disorders.
Method Principle
This Diagnostic Automation/ Cortez Diagnostics Inc. Human Sm/RNP ELISA test kit is designed to detect IgG class antibodies to different autoantigens in human sera. Wells of microplate strips are sensitized by passive absorption with immobilized antigens. The test procedure involves three incubation steps. For further details please refer to complete instructions manual supplied with the product.
Background Information
The Anti-Smith (Anti-Sm) autoantibody is one of a family of characteristic autoantibodies which are very specific marker for Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Approximately 99% of individuals with anti-Sm antibodies have the disease, but about 30% of people with SLE have the antibodies. The RNP antigen is closely associated with Sm antigen. RNP antigen is composed of several RNA and protein components. RNP antibodies are also found in patients with discoid lupus, Sjogren syndrome, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis and MCTD (mixed connective tissue disease). Very high titers of RNP is a characteristic of MCTD.
