Legionella ELISA Test kit

Legionella ELISA Test kit Intended Use
Legionella pneumophila IgG/IgM ELISA is intended for the qualitative detection of total antibodies (IgG and IgM) to Legionella pneumophila (Legionella) serogroups 1-6 in human serum from patients with clinical suspicion of Legionella Disease.

Legionella ELISA Kit Components:
• Microplate: 96 wells coated with Legionella antigen
• HPR-Enzyme Conjugate Goat anti-human IgG/IgM
• Sample Diluent Type I
• Cutoff Calibrator
• High Positive Control
• Low Positive Control
• Negative Control
• Wash Buffer Type I (20X)
• Chromogen/Substrate Solution Type I
• Stop Solution (H2SO4)

Method Principle
This Diagnostic Automation/ Cortez Diagnostics Inc. Human Legionella ELISA test kit is based on the principle of a solid phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. When Legionella antigens bound to the solid phase are brought into contact with patient’s serum, antigen specific antibody, if present, will bind to the antigen on the solid phase forming antigen-antibody complexes. For further details please refer to complete instructions manual supplied with the product.

Background Information
Legionella pneumophila was identified as the causative agent for Legionellosis (Legionella pneumonia, or Legionnaire Disease) in 1977. Presently, there are more than 25 species and 33 serogroups in the family Legionellaceae, with at least 18 species associated with pneumonia, accounting for roughly 1-5% of all cases of pneumonia. The symptoms of Legionellosis range from subclinical asymptomatic infections to severe life-threatening pneumonia. Optimum times for specimen collection appear to be within the first week of illness, or as soon as possible after the onset (acute specimen), and at least 3 weeks after the onset (convalescent specimen). This ELISA test kit utilizes a mixture of Legionella pneumophila serogroups 1-6 as the antigen. The antibody response to Legionella pneumophila can be quite diverse. Individuals not only attain varied titers, but also give heterological response to different serotypes and species. The heterologic response is variable and is probably characteristic of the individual and does not seem to be mediated by the antigenic nature of the infecting strain.
